In 1991, Yannick Noah passed the baton between his sporting and creative sides as all of France looked on. That year, he captained the French tennis team to victory in the Davis Cup—the country's first win in the tournament in 59 years. To celebrate, he led the crowd in a rendition of his debut single, the joyful “Saga Africa”, which kick-started his second act. Since then, his music has continued to draw from the traditions of his French and Cameroonian roots, executed with beguiling lightness and winning warmth.
