Gerardo Ortíz may flirt with the role of Latin-pop smoothie. But the crossover norteño sensation still hasn't reined in his wild side on the second volume of Comeré Callado. The delicate likes of "Claro" and "Mírame" take him strangely close to the high-gloss heartbreak of '70s soft-rock ballads, all plangent guitar licks and tremulous woodwind trills, but then a corrido like "Te Suplico" will spin that creamy voice around an uproarious beat. And that's not even mentioning the few riotous banda rewrites of Ortíz classics like "El M".
