One of the most prolific reggae-inspired bands in Japan, Shounanno Kaze are distinguished by their hearty, textured vocals and high-voltage sound. The quartet made an instant impact in 2003 with debut album Shōnan no Kaze: Real Riders, which blends reggae riddims with hip-hop swagger. But their breakthrough was 2006 single “Junrenka”, an unconventional, joyous love song that solidified their place in the J-pop scene. They’ve since featured in soundtracks for top animes and video games, and expanded their emphatic music with influences from EDM, dancehall, ska-punk and alt-metal riffs.
