About Sandbox Percussion

The Sandbox Percussion ensemble advocates for the music of 21st century composers. The group has commissioned a substantial number of new compositions and works to mentor younger composers through performance and educational efforts. Sandbox Percussion was formed in 2011 by a group of percussionists who enjoyed playing chamber music together. All four of its founding members -- Ian Rosenbaum, Victor Caccese, Jonny Allen, and Terry Sweeney -- are still with the group as of the mid-2020s. Sandbox Percussion released its debut album, And That One Too, in 2020. The group's sophomore album, Seven Pillars, was devoted to a single work by Andy Akiho and garnered Sandbox Percussion several Grammy nominations. In 2022, the ensemble released the album Bathymetry, featuring music by Matthew McBane. Sandbox Percussion was heard in 2024 on the album David Crowell: Point/Cloud.
