Marianne Rosenberg Essentials

A perennial Eurovision presence throughout the ‘70s and beyond, Marianne Rosenberg summed up the era in all its string-rich excess. Launching her career at the tender age of 14 with an ode to a former Beatle (“Mr. Paul McCartney”), this German pop icon soon made her way to disco pomp, cheerfully holding her own against massed horns and omnipresent wah-wah. But she hung on long after disco had faded away, crafting windswept ballads, bouncy ABBA-esque pop and even a string of Blondie covers. No matter the setting, Rosenberg always seems to be having a ball.
