Half a century after his initial success, Dion DiMucci revisits the scene-setting rock ‘n’ roll classics that first inspired him. He prowls and growls across Eddie Cochran’s chugging “Summertime Blues”, brings a surf-tinged twang to Buddy Holly’s “Rave On!” and salutes Elvis with the frisky strut of both “Jailhouse Rock” and “Blue Suede Shoes”. It’s all much more animated and affectionate than merely nostalgic, and Dion brings that same crackling enthusiasm to a new version of his own wry “The Wanderer”.
