Supergrass Essentials

Supergrass Essentials

Supergrass projected a youthful power-popping exuberance that to many became synonymous with Britpop. Beyond that, their 1993 debut single was a punked-up blast of working-class life, which, like their '95 debut LP, owed a lot to '60s pop like The Kinks and '70s punk like The Jam. It helped that the band mixed wit with a rock classicist's love of guitar-based songcraft. During the rest of the '90s and '00s Supergrass consistently produced straight-ahead rock with monstrous hooks that somehow didn't feel retro, despite being heavily indebted to rock history. The band fizzled in 2010.
