It could be said that musician Prince needs no introduction—for a few years during the '90s, he didn't even need a name. The Minneapolis native broke through when his self-titled second album went platinum in '79. Prince's mix of rock, funk and soul made him an immediate sensation. He even starred in and recorded the mega-hit soundtrack for the '84 film Purple Rain, adding movie star to his list of credits. His catchy melodies have also been recorded by everyone from Sinead O'Connor to The Bangles.
