Without Sunny Day Real Estate the term emo might never have entered the modern music lexicon. A post-hardcore band originally formed by Dan Hoerner and Nate Mendel, their 1994 debut album Diary is arguably the most definitive emo record of all time. Despite the enigmatic band essentially self-imploding not long after releasing LP2 in 1995, they went on to catch a second wind in the late-‘90s as they reunited for a pair of critically acclaimed records in 1998 and 2000 to secure their legacy.
