Cie Frazier

About Cie Frazier

b. 23 February 1904, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Taught to play drums by Louis Cottrell Snr., Frazier played in several New Orleans bands in the early and mid-20s including those led by Papa Celestin and Sidney Desvigne. Working in music only part time during the 30s and the war years, Frazier worked extensively from the mid-40s, mostly in New Orleans, with bands such as that led by Percy Humphrey at Manny’s Tavern as well as with Kid Howard. In 1962, Frazier became the regular drummer for the Eureka Brass Band. Later in his career, Frazier toured Europe and the UK. In a class close to that of Zutty Singleton, Frazier’s springy beat and exemplary time keeping made him one of the best of the New Orleans drummers.
