The playlist to accompany the Treasure Island Discs podcast featuring the musical selections of Gord Deppe. Gord Deppe is a Canadian singer songwriter and guitarist best known as the founding frontman of the Burlington based new wave band the Spoons, which emerged in 1979 alongside bandmates Sandy Horne, Rob Preuss, and Derrick Ross. As principal songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist, Deppe steered the band to Canadian chart success in the 1980s with hits like “Nova Heart,” “Romantic Traffic,” “Tell No Lies,” and “Old Emotions,” and achieved gold record status with albums such as Arias & Symphonies. Beyond the Spoons, he pursued solo projects—recording the instrumental album Listen to the City—authored a memoir SpoonFed: My Life with the Spoons recounting his life splitting time between Canada and Germany and chronicling the band’s journey. Today, Gord still performs with the Spoons, and is the guitarist with A Flock of Seagulls.
