This versatile Californian vocal group embodied the sound of ‘60s sunshine pop, and even their lesser-known songs demonstrated their canny ear for a shimmering hook. They added a folky drama to Harry Nilsson's “The Rainmaker” and a pillowy softness to Jimmy Webb's “This Is Your Life,” but weren't afraid to get smouldering either, as they do on a cover of Bobbie Gentry's soulful slow-burner “Ode to Billy Joe.”
