Ghost Essentials

Forming in Tokyo in the mid-'80s, Ghost made it their mission statement to delve as deep within the subconscious as possible using the power of avant-garde psychedelic rock. Led by guitarist Masaki Batoh, their serene dioramas of noise called back to progressive titans like Pink Floyd, overflowing with interstellar synth wooshes ("Hazy Parade"), aquatic guitars ("First Drop of the Sea"), and gentle symphonic waves ("Grisaille"), sounding like the sonic equivalent of a spirit guide leading the way on an inward journey. But they brought plenty of chaos to the mix as well, as heard on the mutating half-hour noise marathon “Hemicyclic Anthelion.”
