Sprung fully formed from the fevered mind of novelist and multi-instrumentalist Chris Eaton, Rock Plaza Central, although gathered at the dawn of the 21st century, exists sonically in no time and every time. While the act's number has fluctuated, ranging from a raucous septet to Eaton alone, the sound remains constant: Eaton's early country vocals echoing with endless longing and melancholy as a swirling buffet of brass and wavering strings clash and clatter behind him. Despite that sense of anachronism being enhanced by production which seems filtered through an old Victrola, there's an undeniable modern rock thread underpinning Rock Plaza Central's chaotic mesh of melody, sweetly stranding the affair in a musical no man's land.
