About Committed

Like Take 6 before them, Committed is a vocal sextet that represents Hunstville, Alabama’s Oakwood University and sings a cappella, drawing from jazz, gospel, doo wop, and R&B. Dennis Baptiste, Tommy Gervais, Geston Pierre, Robert Pressley, Maurice Staple, and Therry Thomas received national attention as competitors on the second season of The Sing-Off, a singing competition aired on NBC. On the strength of performing songs made popular by Maroon 5, OneRepublic, the Police, Backstreet Boys, Usher, Al Green, Boyz II Men, and Michael Jackson, Committed emerged as the winner, ultimately defeating Street Corner Symphony to claim the prizes -- a trophy, $100,000, and an Epic recording contract. Committed recorded and released their self-titled album within nine months of winning the competition; featuring versions of Stevie Wonder's “As” and Maxwell's “Pretty Wings,” the set debuted on the Billboard 200 on September 17, 2011, at number 171. ~ Andy Kellman
