Rap Queb Monuments

Hailing from Quebec City’s South Shore, rap duo Taktika has seen it all over the past 25 years. The veteran pairing of T-Mo and B.I.C.—who started out as a trio before the departure of Benz in 2002—has seen the genre through various stages of its evolution, even hosting American legend KRS-One and French rap icon Shurik’n on their 2011 album, À bout portant. Taktika return with more collabs on this guest-filled eighth full-length, paying homage to old-school pioneers closer to home. Revered Montreal crew Muzion takes the baton on “Marathon,” a stark jam about the long road to success, marked by dramatic strings and piano. Grizzly voiced rapper SP (of Sans Pression) guests on “Au-dessus de la mêlée,” a head-bobbing track recalling the difficulties of making one’s way in the scene’s early days. Soulful anthem “Dans l’sang” features Montreal North hero Connaisseur Ticaso trading bars on the topic of resilience in difficult times, a running theme on this righteous album bringing together Quebec rap’s builders and survivors.
