It’s fitting that Chris Mann made his name on The Voice: he sings with exceptional power and finesse, always reaching for the back row with the bruised tone of a man who has seen a thing or two. On his second album of fretful pop, he pleads for forgiveness, sometimes at a heroic pitch with full orchestral backing (“Comeback”, “Echo”) and sometimes more reflective (“Love and War”, “Rain Like This”). Always ready with a dramatic flourish, he manages to bring an air of wounded defeat to his piano and cello cover of “Fly Me to the Moon”.
