About Natalia Lafourcade

One of the most prolific and influential Latin American singer-songwriters of the 21st century, Natalia Lafourcade and her baroque poetry have encompassed several eras. She was born in Mexico City in 1984 and raised in the artistic community of Coatepec, Veracruz, where her family of writers, musicians and educators, as well as the region's rich Jarocho traditions, nourished her budding creativity. Lafourcade blasted to stardom in 2002 with the brooding, Alanis Morissette-esque single “En el 2000”, later embracing a more mainstream rock sound with La Forquetina on the collaborative album Casa. Mujer Divina, her 2012 tribute to legendary composer Agustín Lara, heralded a growing fascination with Mexican roots music, reaching critical mass three years later on the Latin Grammy-sweeping smash, Hasta la Raíz. Subsequent LPs Musas and De Todas las Flores would echo folk and jazz greats like Chavela Vargas and Serge Gainsbourg, and her cumbia crossover with Los Ángeles Azules on “Nunca Es Suficiente” made her a permanent fixture of Mexican radio.
