On this short but sweet foray into children’s music, Sydney indie-folk songwriter Josh Pyke broadens his usual affirming themes to appeal to listeners of all ages. Over a jaunty bluegrass arrangement, the opening “Every Day’s a New Adventure” encourages kids to celebrate the daily joy of just being themselves, while “Bite Sized Try” introduces a similar spirit of exploration to the perennial challenge of trying new food. Other tracks make useful advice feel properly fun, whether Pyke is sharing his productive morning routine or suggesting a break from screen time over bright, bubbly synths. And most helpful for Australia’s warmer months, “Sun Safety” reminds little ones about UV protection over a ticking reggae rhythm. This isn’t Pyke’s first time appealing to young ones—he recorded a single with children’s entertainer Justine Clarke in 2016 and has since penned several picture books—but it does feel like the start of something bigger.
