French collective Shaka Ponk was conceived between Paris and Berlin as a multimedia assault of kaleidoscopic visuals and freak electro-rock. Thanks to Mister Goz, their virtual ape mascot, a hasty parallel would be Gorillaz—but Shaka Ponk are their own beast, boundlessly bending cheeky beats with brass, banjo and double-bass, high-energy techno, swing, primordial punk and ear-splitting rap metal in their extrasensory alchemy. Starting with their 2006 debut Loco Con Da Frenchy Talkin', they defy convention but still capture the crowd.
