Robbie Dupree Essentials

Remembered for his 1980 debut single—the bouncy yet slick Top 10 hit "Steal Away", with its funky bass, late-'70s keyboards and adult-oriented seductive lyrics—Robbie Dupree made well-produced soft rock often compared to Michael McDonald's. Despite being a New Yorker, Dupree was associated with the smooth West Coast adult contemporary sound of the '70s and '80s known as Yacht Rock, continuing in that very genre well into the '90s and noughties. The wonderful blues and jazz-tinged "Lucky" from 2008—a song chronicling his life in music—showed Dupree at the top of his game in his 60s.
