Mac Dre was tragically murdered in 2004 but the Bay Area icon leaves behind an incredible musical and cultural legacy. Getting his start in the late-'80s, the rapper dropped a series of locally acclaimed projects before founding his own Thizz Entertainment label in 1999. Often linked to the hyphy movement, Dre's amiable voice was a natural fit with melodic synth-based production and he amassed over 20 solo and collaborative projects before passing away. Proving his influence, Drake dropped a tribute to Mac Dre in rhyme on 2011's Take Care album.
