Train Essentials

San Francisco rockers Train have carved themselves a cosy spot in pop-rock history with some of the 21st century's biggest, most charming hits. Since releasing their 1998 self-titled debut, which features the rootsy alt-pop anthem "Meet Virginia", the band have played jangly sing-alongs ("Calling All Angels") and string-laden ballads ("Drops of Jupiter") and even sampled classic doo-wop ("Play That Song"). And they captured hearts with the inescapable dynamism of 2009's pop smash "Hey, Soul Sister", which is powered by a catchy ukulele riff and frontman Patrick Monahan's high-energy howl.
