RedHook’s Winter Scorchers

Winter can make us all slow down a bit, but RedHook aren’t letting the cold months diminish their love of crushing musical intensity. Fresh off releasing their debut album, the dynamic Postcard From a Living Hell, the Sydney alt-rockers have curated a scorching selection of heavy anthems from around the world—all selected for the sonic equivalent of spontaneous combustion. “We’ve stacked the hearth with a load of straight-fire bangers guaranteed to warm you up this winter,” says vocalist Emmy Mack. “Featuring some of our fave red-hot tunes from across the spectrum of heavy music—from pop-punk to metalcore, hardcore, prog, nu-metal and grunge—this riff-driven riot is guaranteed to get you sweating under your winter woollies.” Read on for some additional track-by-track commentary from Mack, along with guitarist Craig Wilkinson and drummer Alex Powys. PVRIS, “Fire” Emmy Mack: “This song may be a couple of years old now, but it hasn’t lost any of its heat. Combining infectious pop melodies and dance beats with snarling, heavy guitars, ‘Fire’ is a five-star scorcher that’ll have you burning up!” Paledusk, “AREA PD” Alex Powys: “Red-hot riffs, fiery fills and enough energy to fuel an industrial furnace. My armpits are sweaty just thinking about it!” Electric Callboy, “Pump It” EM: “It’s never too cold to pump it with Electric Callboy. This glorious concoction of crushing metalcore and ’80s synth-pop razzle from their 2022 album TEKKNO is potent enough to get even the frostiest of heads bopping hard.” Shrezzers, “p7ay3rS” Craig Wilkinson: “Every season is sax season! And Russian progsters Shrezzers are too hot to handle with the sexy sax on this funk-metal jam off their 2023 SEX & SAX LP.” Sleep Token, “Alkaline” EM: “This achingly heavy hymn off Sleep Token’s 2021 album This Place Will Become Your Tomb is equal parts fire and ice. It’ll chill you to the bone while it sets fire to your core. Either way, I’m into it.” Holding Absence, “A Crooked Melody” EM: “This Welsh act are the hottest thing in punk/emo music right now. They can’t get any hotter! Announcing their third record, The Noble Art of Self Destruction, this first cut fires on all cylinders, from those epic vocals from Lucas Woodland to the drums being hit so hard from Ashley Green, you’d think they were literally on fire!”
