Meg Mac’s From The Road Playlist

Meg Mac kept herself busy in 2022, releasing her third album, Matter of Time, and then embarking on a 19-date North American tour just a fortnight later. Supporting English singer/songwriter Jacob Banks, Mac relished playing to huge audiences while keeping herself grounded with an excellent playlist spanning both new and old favourites. “I’ve been living on a tour bus for the last month and these are the songs that have been with me,” the Sydney alt-pop artist told Apple Music at the time. “I know they’re going to be forever tied to these memories with the Jacob Banks crew and this weird time on the bus, travelling around America. It’s my tour playlist for any season.” While you might know some of these stone-cold classics already—cue Dolly Parton, Nina Simone, Rodriguez and Bill Withers—there is plenty of newer talent in the mix too. Read on as Mac singles out four of her favourite tunes from amongst the latter. The Avener, “Fade Out Lines” “I always thought it was a weird thing to do but I’ve recently found myself dancing alone in hotel rooms. Maybe too much time away from home I don’t know, but I blame this song.” Leon Bridges, “Texas Sun” “This is the song blasted through the PA at every venue before soundcheck begins. So it feels like a theme song and forever linked to the tour.” Jacob Banks, “By Design” “One of my favourites from Jacob. I like to watch this one in the crowd and sing along with everyone else every night. Telenova, “Why Do I Keep You?” “My new favourite band from Australia. I’m always in the mood to listen to Telenova and tell everyone about them.”
