Having been blessed with an engagingly worried tremor in her voice, Lisa Mitchell naturally found her home in modest music that is both honest and heartfelt. UK born and Albury bred, she grew up on 20 hectares and constructed her early songs around old pianos, ukuleles, found instruments and happenstance. This ramshackle charm is lent emotional sturdiness by Mitchell's mournful melodies; she appears to be creating a world around herself as she sings. It's an effect even more pronounced on her later songs, which blossom outward in confidence, taking on slinky Latin rhythms and a blooming sense of purpose.
