JONGHYUN—primary vocalist for the Korean boy group SHINee—delivers clear and affecting singing in his solo work. Standing alone, his voice is given more room to glow, and at almost every turn JONGHYUN works the mic like he's been set free. He can be sweet and intimate, such as on the breezy, near-whispered “Love Belt” duet with YounHa or on the midtempo lounge-pop of “U & I”. Yet he's also prone to flexing his vocal chops on fidgety future-pop numbers like “She Is” and the string-heavy ballad “Breath”.
