Joe Cocker Essentials

Joe Cocker came blasting out of England in the late '60s bearing a monolithic voice that radiated with soulful power. His transformation of The Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends" into a roaring R&B storm at Woodstock 1969 cemented his fame, and over the years Cocker showed off his ability to sling gospel classics with the best of them. His churning take on Ray Charles' “Unchain My Heart” is a growling, funky behemoth, but he could also downshift into a tear-inducing balladeer, as he does on his gentle cover of Billy Preston's romantic reverie “You Are So Beautiful”.
