Eskimo Joe Essentials

Few remember a band from Fremantle with the name Freud's Pillow. But when a couple of its members decided to create a side-project for fun in 1997, it became a serious proposition called Eskimo Joe. Their early material was quirky indie pop; deliriously catchy, distorted guitar-driven tunes like “Sweater” and “Turn Up Your Stereo” found a place in rotation on alternative radio station Triple J. By the time they released their big breakthrough album, 2006's ARIA-winning Black Fingernails, Red Wine, they'd graduated from clubs to arenas with a sound to match.
