Calvin Harris, Kaskade, Tiësto—EDM is flush with poker-faced megastars. Then there's deadmau5, a.k.a Joel Zimmerman, an irreverent punk from Toronto who's as famous for wearing a mouse head on stage as he is for releasing tech-house missiles like “Ghosts ‘n' Stuff” and “I Remember”. But this producer/engineer's talents are no joke, as evidenced by the uniquely concussive kick drums and gnarly synth spasms that distinguish his tracks. Check the epic harmonics in “Some Chords”, and try and find a harder drop than the one in “Raise Your Weapon”. Mouse head or no, Zimmerman is one of a kind.
