Christine and the Queens Essentials

French-born Héloïse Letissier became Christine and the Queens after being inspired by some drag queens in a London nightclub in 2010, and he's been combining art, dance and music in glossy, one-man gesamtkunstwerks ever since. On slick, bilingual chansons like “Tilted”, he combines canorous melodies with skittering beats and subtle ambient flourishes, while “Jonathan”, a duet with Perfume Genius, is an intense swirl of gorgeous synths and graceful strings. The artist's background in theatre ensures his slick R&B always thrums with vibrant energy—see the cool, funky disco of her Dâm-Funk collaboration “Girlfriend”.
