Best of '80s Indie Pop, Vol. 1
Apple Music

In the '80s indie pop really was indie, much of it starting as DIY recordings on small labels. Glasgow's Postcard label gave us the giddy stylings of Orange Juice and Josef K, and Los Angeles's Slash took a chance on scrappy acoustic rockers The Violent Femmes. Meanwhile, London's Rough Trade signed blatantly noncommercial bands like Young Marble Giants and The Smiths, forever changing the sound and future direction of pop music.
