About Bad History Month

Based around the stormy songwriting of Sean Sprecher, Boston-area indie band Bad History Month's intense and existentially troubled songs are often held together by an irreverent sense of humor. Despite the group's tendency towards self-aware humor, Sprecher's tracks on albums like 2017's Dead and Loving It were dark and tumultuous. Bad History Month originally went by Fat History Month and released a variety of material between 2011 and 2013, at which point Sprecher officially changed the name of the project. Part of a Boston D.I.Y. scene that included bands like Pile and Ovlov, Bad History Month's first official release under the new moniker was 2014's Famous Cigarettes, a split with like-minded Boston act Dust From 1000 Years. Slow, brooding instrumentals and dire, self-reflective lyrics made up the 2017 full-length Dead and Loving It, and three years later Sprecher stretched a similar approach into longer songs on sophomore album Old Blues. ~ Fred Thomas
