About Friction Farm

The South Florida pop/rock band Friction Farm came together in 1998. It first consisted of bassist and lead vocalist Christine Stay and vocalist and guitarist Aidan Quinn, both are also songwriters. The duo had worked together before, in a band called the Resistance, which lasted for about three years in the mid-'90s. By 1999 guitarist, vocalist, and keyboardist Pete LeVine added his talents to the Friction Farm match, along with drummer Timothy Moss. That same year, the group finished recording its first album, Galileo's Horse. Some of the power pop tracks from this first offering are "In the Light," "Better Than This," and "Book of Your Regrets." The debut earned the band encouraging reviews in magazines like Jam and Billboard. John Tovar, who worked to jump-start the careers of artists like Marilyn Manson, signed up as manager for Friction Farm before the group's sophomore release hit the market in 2000. The album was named Live at the Legendary L7, recorded just like the title says, at the L7 Studios in Deerfield Beach. That same year, Stay and Quinn landed an ASCAP award for their songwriting. Timothy Moss left the band in 2000 to become a member of Black River. Other drummers took turns standing in his place, like Mike Vullo and Robert Lamont, until finally a new full-time drummer moved in, Matt McMeekin. ~ Charlotte Dillon
