About Fred Lonberg-Holm
A highly prolific musician, Chicago-based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm works primarily in an avant-garde jazz context, but has also ventured into the worlds of dance theater and indie rock. A former student of Anthony Braxton and Morton Feldman, Lonberg-Holm often brings a chamber-music aesthetic to his experimental pieces, and is renowned for his innovative Lightbox Orchestra (which takes musical cues from a light box that he controls). Like his fellow cellist and NYC peer Erik Friedlander, Lonberg-Holm demonstrates a versatility that also makes him an in-demand session player for pop/rock acts (Wilco, Will Oldham).
