About Nicky Schrire

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I grew up in a house of music despite neither of my parents being musicians. My mum fostered my love of musical theatre, introducing me to The Sound of Music & My Fair Lady. My father educated me about songwriters-Randy Newman, James Taylor & more. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Harry Connick, Jr., When Harry Met Sally... (Music From The Motion Picture) Soundtrack from the Motion Picture Johnny Clegg, Juluka, The Best of Johnny Clegg - Juluka & Savuka Thomas Newman, Road To Perdition (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Soundtrack from the Motion Picture Thomas Newman's haunting score is a massive part of adoration for this movie. Harry Connick Jr's "score" to a favourite film is the classiest of jazz accompaniments. The sound of South Africa and my youth from the divine Johnny Clegg. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “When You Go (feat. Gerald Clayton)” I'm proud of this song. It's an example of less is more both in writing and execution. Recording it with pianist Gerald Clayton was the cherry on top. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Headlining the 2018 Cape Town International Jazz Festival was a career highlight. To perform on a massive stage in my hometown, with friends and family in the audience and on stage, was an utter joy. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to perform with the WDR Big Band and the Metropole Jazz Orchestra (with Vince Mendoza orchestrations and conducting-a girl can dream!). I also hope to record an album with strings one day. Sigh.
