Garage punk duo Street Eaters formed in 2007 after bassist John No (Fleshies, Triclops!) and drummer Megan March (Before the Fall, Younger Lovers) met through famed Berkeley, California club 924 Gilman Street and connected over their love of '90s punk, riot grrrl, and D.I.Y. culture. No and March approached the band as a 50-50 collaboration, sharing songwriting duties with an emphasis on themes of alienation and personal and political struggles. Tempering the activist spirit of the '90s Pacific Northwest underground with their freewheeling East Bay punk revivalist roots, Street Eaters delivered their socially conscious lyrics with call-and-response vocals and treble-cranked bass, finding their sonic niche somewhere between Dutch post-punk alchemists the Ex and rousing Portland-based indie rockers the Thermals. The duo debuted in 2008 on a split 7" with Anaheim punk-pop trio White Night, following in 2009 with the We See Monsters EP. A split 7" with Chico, California-based Severance Package came in 2010 as the duo developed its full-length debut, Rusty Eyes and Hydrocarbons, slated for a July 2011 release on the Plan-It-X and Bakery Outlet labels. ~ Chrysta Cherrie
