Ensemble El Sol

About Ensemble El Sol

France's Ensemble El Sol specializes in the Spanish and South American Baroque repertory of the 17th and 18th centuries, a body of music that other performers have occasionally explored but that before Ensemble El Sol, had never received systematic performances from a dedicated group. The group was signed to the Mirare label and released its debut album in 2019. Ensemble El Sol came on the scene in 2016 and, although predominantly French, includes musicians from various countries. Its co-founders were harpsichordist Chloé Sévère and soprano Angélique Pourreyron. The other members of Ensemble El Sol, are mezzo-soprano Dagmar Saskova, Baroque harpist Caroline Lieby, theorbist and Baroque guitarist Victorien Disse, gambist Ronald Martin Alonso, and percussionist Laurent Sauron. The focus of Ensemble El Sol is on Spanish and Latin American music from the Baroque era, highlighting a period of Spanish supremacy and the cultural exchange between Spain and France. The group has planned a tour through Latin America following successful tours of France and Europe. In 2019, Ensemble El Sol was signed to the Mirare label and released Reinas: Airs en espagnol à la cour de Louis XIII. ~ James Manheim
