About Aka Moon

Belgian jazz trio Aka Moon -- Fabrizio Cassol (alto sax), Michel Hatzigeorgiou (electric bass), and Stéphane Galland (drums) -- have been together since the early '90s. Taking their name from a culture of Pygmies, Aka Moon's music is a highly original blend of jazz, rock, world music, modern composition, and more. During the group's career, they've augmented their sound from time to time with other players/instruments (keyboards, guitar, etc.). By 2012, the trio had issued over 15 albums, including 2001's In Real Time (created for Anne-Teresa De Keersmaeker's Rosas dance company), and 2012's Unison (recorded and released in celebration of the band's 20th anniversary). Released in 2015, The Scarlatti Book included guest pianist Fabian Fiorini in the lineup, and featured Cassol compositions inspired by the sonatas of Neopolitan composer Domenico Scarlatti. ~ Greg Prato
