About Trio HLK

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. H "circa 1989 I was shown where middle C was on the piano!" L "microtonal music on TV where I was born and grew up (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia)..." K “My Dad would play guitar and sing to me when I was a toddler - my first house concerts!” What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Meshuggah, Koloss Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Ligeti: Études, Música Ricercata Steve Lehman Octet, Travail, Transformation and Flow (feat. Steve Lehman, Jonathan Finlayson, Mark Shim, Tim Albright, Jose Davila, Chris Dingman, Drew Gress & Tyshawn Sorey) H "T, T & F - a mind blowing integration of jazz w/spectral harmony, amazing drumming from Tyshawn Sorey." L "Koloss - the reason I started playing 8-string!" K "Ligeti is a huge inspiration to us in the trio - especially these performances." What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Our first live collaboration with Evelyn Glennie was on 17th March 2018 at Bristol Jazz Festival. It turned out to be a great success and we now perform a great deal together. But at the time we had no ideaI how it was going to go - very exciting! Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There are way too many musical ambitions to list but we're always looking forward to ongoing live and studio collaborations with Evelyn, Varijashree and Natalie... And hopefully making some new musical friends in the coming years too.
