Joey LaBeija is a Bronx-born DJ who made a name for himself with adventurous DJ sets that seamlessly blended numerous genres including reggaeton, R&B, and alternative rock, along with aggressive, noisy bass and jagged beats reminiscent of U.K. grime. After establishing a monthly club night called Legendary and playing gigs at MoMa PS1 and Brooklyn Museum, LaBeija released Shattered Dreams as an online mixtape in August of 2015. Focusing on more spacious downtempo cuts rather than faster club material, the release was a dark, emotionally heavy set of tracks. Shattered Dreams was issued as a vinyl EP by Purple Tape Pedigree in 2016. ~ Paul Simpson
