Formed by 17-year-old drummer and songwriter Mark Ashton, the Turnstyle recorded an average 1968 single for Pye Records, "Riding a Wave"/"Trot," combining elements of then-current pop, hard rock, and psychedelia. Although the group did last for six months after the release of the 45, and supported the Nice in concert a few times, they never issued any more recordings. Ashton went on to the more well-known progressive rock band Rare Bird after Turnstyle folded. ~ Richie Unterberger
