About Luminous Bodies

The sludge-infused rock of Luminous Bodies first made waves with the release of their 2015 eponymous debut album, with its mighty double drumming and monolithic rock riffing on the Amp Rep sound of the early '90s. Formed in London by Ikara Colt/Part Chimp's Tracy Bellaries (bass), Terminal Cheesecake's Gordon Watson (vocals/guitar), and Apes Fight Back's Dan Hunt (drums), the trio set out to create a mix of sludge-infused psychedelic rock, inspired in part by Butthole Surfers, but also their own backgrounds in numerous underground noise-rock bands. Fleshing out their sound with the addition of Gum Takes Tooth's Tom Fugelsang on guitar and second drummer Luca Zoo Franzoni, the group made their live debut in 2013. Over the next 18 months, the group played some of the U.K.'s best underground festivals, including Raw Power and Supernormal, supporting the likes of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, and playing a selection of their own headline dates, before being signed to Box Records for the release of their debut album. Sessions with Wayne Adams (Petbrick/Big Lad) followed at his own Bear Bites Horse studios, with the label issuing the eponymously titled album in 2015. Select dates followed over the next couple of years, while each member also devoted time to their other bands, but in 2018 the group returned with new material, with the release of a split single with Casual Nun. 2019 saw them back in the studio recording their sophomore album. Preceded by the track "Choices," Box Records issued the album Nah Nah Nah Yeh Yeh Yeh in early 2020. ~ Rich Wilson
