Fans of Vivianne Roy’s former band Les Hay Babies—brace yourselves. Roy's debut solo LP as Laura Sauvage is about as far from her French-language country-folk roots as you can get. While most of Extraordinormal’s spare and stripped-back indie stompers keep the tempo in the middle, there’s a palpable punk energy to Roy's subtle sneers and evocative, clanging guitar lines on opener “Rubberskin” and the swaggering “Have You Heard the Good News?" But there are moments when restraint takes a backseat: the scrappy garage-rocker “F****r (Stole My Phone)” is a '90s-style storm of four chords and squalling feedback.
