An award-winning app developer, Daniel Hsu is also an impressive pianist. Placed third in the 2017 Cliburn competition, he impressed the judges with his wit and charm while also taking the prizes for chamber music and for the commissioned work from Marc-André Hamlein, included here. His pianism is full of imagination—whether in Beethoven’s penultimate piano sonata or Mussorgsky’s epic Pictures at an Exhibition—and he has a truly formidable command of the keyboard.
