Unfolding Debussy

Unfolding Debussy

This is one of the more inventive albums released to mark the centenary of Debussy’s death. Pianist and composer Marina Baranova takes many of his most popular piano pieces, such as “Clair de lune,” and improvises, weaving hints and snippets of the original into a dreamy, diaphanous texture. Sitting somewhere between classical and jazz, Unfolding Debussy is clearly inspired by a deep love of the composer’s music, and Baranova obviously knows it well—even daring a vocal line to “The Snow is Dancing.”
