About The Collins Kids
Although essentially a late '50s television phenomenon aimed at children, the Collins Kids have held up over time with their era's best rockabilly and have become a favorite of rare record enthusiasts. Featuring guitarist Larry Collins and his older sister Lorrie, the duo had a run of appearances on Tex Ritter's variety shows. While the former was not quite Carl Perkins and the latter not quite Wanda Jackson, they gave both a run for their money with an unabashedly youthful take on guitar and vocals respectively. With cute banter, hyperexhuberant stage moves, and a rough-and-tumble (and envelope-pushing considering their audience) aesthetic, the Collins Kids made kid's music with the teeth of real rock and roll. They broke up after Lorrie gave birth in 1961, but Larry re-emerged later as a successful songwriter.
