At Home With deadmau5: The Playlist

“I'm sitting around and coming up with ways to keep it going without having to leave the house, and that's a big challenge,” deadmau5 says about self-isolation during the pandemic. Hunkered down at home, the Canadian DJ has kept writing and recording music. He also relaunched a series of online live streams called mau5trap Monday, a platform he uses to discover new talent and get new artists signed to his label mau5trap. “It’s basically me at home in the studio, where people submit their demos and we listen to them,” he says. “It’s kind of interactions with fans and producers where we can listen to their demos, and we keep a notepad of ones that are catching our ears.” On this exclusive Apple Music playlist curated by deadmau5 himself, he’s included tracks by Tommy Lee & Aero, Foo Fighters, Richie Hawtin and Rrose, whose 2012 track “Waterfall” he listens to while he’s keeping himself productive. “If anyone ever asked me, ‘What kind of music do you listen to?’ I would easily point to this, ’cause this is something I can listen to as I work,” he says. “My boomer techno is Rrose; that’s the stuff I like. The ‘no fucks given, I'm just so pure into this’ kind of thing.”
