Born into a family of flamenco artists, Soleá Morente firmly draws on Andalusian pioneers, such as the inimitable La Niña de los Peines singing a heated “Esquilones de Plata”. But Morente also revamps the genre for millennials, inspired by burgeoning ’00s and ’10s songwriters, like stirring indie folksters Bon Iver—while ’80s dream pop veterans Cocteau Twins resolutely haunt her hazier melodies.
