History of Raï Vol. 2

The counterculture music of 1920s Algeria, raï arose out of discontent, rebelling against classic forms with songs of everyday life and urban hardships at their core. Evolving over the decades, raï today retains the ever-emotional vocal depth of reverb chanting, rhythmic drums and upbeat modern electro-synth touches from artists like Cheb Mami and Bouteldja Belkacem.
